Junior Representative Program
About
The Junior Representative Program is one pathway to representing IDNA in Netball NSW competitions across Metro Sydney and regional NSW. It is designed for players who have turned, or are turning, 12, 13 or 14 years of age in the year of play. IDNA is committed to providing each age group with a suitably qualified and experienced coaching team to support players throughout their representative and development journey.

Selection is based on demonstrated core and tactical netball skills, with players assessed on their ability to execute skills under pressure, make effective decisions, and perform consistently within a team environment. Selected players receive additional coaching aimed at refining these skills and preparing them for high-level competition.

The selection process occurs in two phases:
-
Phase 1 – Squad Selection: All nominated players are assessed, with up to 24 squad players selected.
-
Phase 2 – Team Selection: Squad members participate in weekly skill sessions led by the coaching team, with selectors observing across multiple sessions prior to final team selection.

Being selected as an Illawarra Junior Representative involves a significant commitment. Players and families should be prepared for the time, training, travel and financial responsibilities associated with representative netball before submitting a nomination.

Nominations
To be eligible for nomination, players must be a registered and financial member of IDNA in the current year, including registration in the current Winter Outdoor competition.

All nominations must be submitted online via the IDNA website once nominations open and before the advertised closing date.

Players selected into the Junior Development Program are expected to accept the position if offered.

A $60 nomination fee applies to all trial nominations. Payment details will be provided within the online nomination form.

Representative Teams
IDNA Junior Representative Teams compete at Netball NSW State Titles and participate in 4–6 development carnivals throughout the season, providing players with valuable exposure to high-level competition. These experiences are designed to challenge athletes, build resilience, and accelerate skill development in a competitive, representative environment.

Players benefit from expert coaching delivered by experienced and elite netball personnel, with a strong focus on refining core and tactical skills, teamwork, and game awareness.

The Junior Representative program is a significant stepping stone to senior representative netball and Netball NSW pathways, supporting the progression of talented athletes as they continue their development and aspire to higher levels of the game.
Development Teams
IDNA’s Junior Development Program is designed to identify and nurture emerging talent while supporting players on their representative journey. The program focuses on building strong fundamental and tactical skills, helping players develop the confidence, consistency and game awareness needed to perform at a higher level of netball.

The program provides opportunities to train and compete in an environment beyond club netball, alongside like-minded athletes, and under a range of coaching styles that support both individual growth and team performance.

Development may occur through a Development Team or Training Partner model, as determined by IDNA in consultation with the appointed coaching team. Training runs weekly from February to June and includes carnival participation, speed and agility sessions, and opportunities for additional match play alongside representative teams during the Winter competition.
